The combined Asthma and Anaphylaxis course is designed to cpmply with childcare first aid regulations which came into effect 1 January 2012. This being the 'National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care'.
As a result, two approved competency units were made mandatory:
This unit of competency has been developed to provide students with the skills to recognise as asthma attack, provide first aid assistance, understand Asthma medications and devices such as blue reliever and prescribed medications. It also has a big emphasis of Risk Minimisation Strategies/Plans to mitigate potential hazards.
This unit describes the outcomes required to assist a person suffering an Anaphylatic reaction until the arrival of medical assistance. Application of this unit relates to the use of adrenaline auto-injecting devices such as, Epipen and Anapen.
In this course, we will cover the recognition, management, prevention and risk minimisation strategies related to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
